Gould Center Internship - Accepting Applications for Fall 2007
The Gould Center for Geography Education and Outreach is accepting applications for a Fall 2007 GIScience intern to work on mapping projects for the Department of Geography. The goal of this internship will be to create maps for various Penn State departments, colleges, and research centers. Most of the projects will be on an ad hoc basis for clients across campus. Past year’s interns have worked on the following projects:
All data, reference materials, and guidance will be provided. Design and cartographic creativity are encouraged. All work will be done using ArcGIS 9.x and other software such as Adobe Illustrator and Flash. You will have some flexibility to design your own work schedule. A minimum of 5 hours per week is required for 1 credit, but up to 3 credits of GEOG 495G can be earned for 15 hours of work per week. Weekly one-hour meetings with John Murphy will also be required and included in your work hours. Deryck Holdsworth, the faculty advisor, Erin Greb, cartographer, as well as Beth King and Jim Detwiler, will be available to provide additional support and feedback on technical questions. Experience using ArcGIS is required and previous coursework in GIS and cartography (GEOG 361 and 363) is preferred.
