Labor Market Areas

Segregation

  • Multiscale segregation measures promote the idea that segregation is a process that has meaningful impacts at multiple scales from the households immediately around a person to the entire labor market. Multiscale segregation measures seek to incorporate the variation in segregation across scale as a means of capturing this multi-scaled impact.
  • Places are administrative units that exist below the scale of the metropolitan area but above the scale of the neighborhood. In this paper we decompose diversity and segregation within metropolitan areas to look at the diverse roles played by Places in shaping broader segregation measures.
